Job Title: PAYROLL CLERK

Salary: $23.47 Hourly

Job Type: Full Time

Department: Treasurer’s Office

Those who pass the exam will be added to the current PAYROLL CLERK eligible list to be considered for future job openings.

Definition

This job posting is for a competitive position which requires a Civil Service examination. The names of all candidates who pass this examination will be forwarded to hiring managers, based on score ranking, when vacancies occur in this classification

This is not a remote position.

Under general supervision, is responsible for verifying District payroll and personnel activities; performs related duties as required.

Examples of Work

  • Reviews incoming payroll records and personnel transactions for accuracy and conformity to applicable legislation.
  • Reviews KRONOS and other reports of payroll and personnel transactions for accuracy.
  • Reconciles payroll adjustments and terminations.
  • Prepares and certifies all pension-related forms initiated by the School Employees Retirement System (SERS) and State Teachers Retirement System (STRS).
  • Processes payroll transactions, adjustments, and corrections into a computer system.
  • Establishes and maintains all payroll and employee files and records.
  • Provides information to employees on payroll matters and retirement system reporting issues.
  • Locates and consolidates information for reports or to resolve conflicts and errors.
  • Performs mathematical computations related to personnel activities, such as vacation or sick leave accruals and rates of pay for varying terms.
  • Prepares audits and validates payroll.
  • Prepares and processes forms for automatic payroll deductions such as garnishments, child support, and bargaining unit contributions.

Minimum Qualifications

Completion of the twelfth school grade and two (2) years of timekeeping or financial recordkeeping experience. Substitution: A certificate of high school equivalence (GED) will be accepted in lieu of the twelfth grade requirement

The assessment consists of a computerized exam weighted 100% covering Customer Service (audio), Name and Number Comparison, Reading Comprehension, Applying Policies, Basic Math, and MS Excel. If special accommodations are required to test, please complete an Accommodations Request located on the CCS website @ . Accommodations Requests must be made upon application submission.

Candidates must have a valid picture ID to take the exam. The exam has a web-based proctoring function.

All applicants must complete all phases of the testing process in order to receive a final score. The names of all candidates who pass this examination will remain on the eligible list for two years, unless the eligible list is replaced prior to or extended beyond the two years. If a candidate's name is certified and the candidate is to be considered for employment, the hiring process will include one or more interviews, a criminal background check, and may include a pre-employment drug test.

The certification process will be the top 10 candidates on the eligible list, or top 25% of the list, whichever is greater, based on overall test score.
